Hi everyone. How have you all been?
Am quite sure most of you will say" Yes, I drink enough water" when you see the title of this post but am not positive that your answers will remain the same after reading the post. So, let's find out.
It is very essential to drink water, and we can only survive a few days at most without water. Majority of the population seems to be in a dehydrated rut, despite how crucial water is.
The need for water cannot be over-emphasized. As humans, nearly every aspect of our body needs fluid to function and our body is composed of approximately 70% of fluid. Most parts of the medium that helps our cells communicate with each other is made up of water.
Despite the fact that we can only survive a few days without water, do you you think eight(8) glasses of water a day is really necessary? Although experts recommend drinking eight (8) to ten (10) glasses of water daily to maintain good health, personally I would say it depends on many factors including :
- Weather where you live?
- Your size?
- What's your general health status?
- Are you doing activities that increase water loss (sweating)?
- Do you drink a lot of coffee or soft drinks? As coffee can act as a diuretic, meaning it can increase urination.
Dehydration can have a noticeable effect if you lose as little as 2% of your body's water content. This can lead to altered body temperature control, increased fatique, reduced motivation and makes exercise feel more difficult, both mentally and physically.
Drinking water relieves fatique. If you feel tired often, there is a great tendency that it could be due to inadequate water consumption which makes the body function less efficiently. In fact, one of the first signs of dehydration is fatique.
Staying hydrated is an important aspect of weight loss that people often ignore. Scientists found that drinking two(2) glasses of water prior to meals can help suppress appetite, hence support your weightloss efforts. When you drink water, it fills your stomach and reduces the tendency to eat more.
In addition, it helps increase the rate at which the body burns fat, and promotes the breakdown and elimination of fat cells.
Water also improves the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract which helps in digestion and to prevent constipation. Inadequate water in the body often results in constipation as the colon pulls water from the stools to maintain hydration, thereby making them harder and difficult to pass.
Drinking water is also known to treat headaches and migraines. If you have a headache or migraine, the first thing that you can do to get some relief is to drink plenty of water. Headaches and migraines are often caused by dehydration.
It has also been indicated by research that mild dehydration (even 1 or 2 percent lower hydration level than optimal) can negatively affect your mood and ability to think. A study conducted found that being dehydrated can affect your cognitive function and mood. The colour of your urine is a good indicator of your level of hydration. The lighter the colour the better the level of hydration and vice versa.
Water is also known to be an excellent detoxifier as it helps flush out toxins from the body and get rid of waste primarily through sweat and urine. It also promotes kidney function and reduces kidney stones by diluting the minerals and salts in urine that cause kidney stones.
.........and not forgetting the awesome benefit of drinking water on your skin.
Do you know that water is much more beneficial when you drink it at the right time? Oh yes, it is.
Here are some great benefits of drinking water at the right time :
2 glasses after waking up - Helps activate internal organs
1 glass 30 minutes before meal- Helps digestion
1 glass before taking a bath- Lowers blood pressure
1 glass before going to bed- Avoid stroke and heart attack
